Timberwolves' Ricky Rubio, Andrew Wiggins miss loss with knee issues

MINNEAPOLIS -- The Minnesota Timberwolves were without guard Ricky Rubio and forward Andrew Wiggins for Tuesday night's 104-95 loss to the Charlotte Hornets. Both were late scratches with knee issues.

Rubio, whose left knee was sore, is averaging 13.0 points and 9.0 assists per game this season.

Wolves coach Sam Mitchell said he didn't find out Rubio and Wiggins would be out until just before the game.

Wiggins, whose right knee was problematic, was coming off back-to-back games of at least 30 points for the first time in his career. That included 33 points Monday in a road victory over Atlanta that improved the Timberwolves to a surprising 4-2.

Wiggins arrived at Target Center on Tuesday night and got some attention on his knee, but the Timberwolves weren't taking any chances with their young star. Kevin Martin started in his place.

Veteran Kevin Garnett was also given the night off on the second leg of a back-to-back. Adreian Payne started at power forward for him.
