Valanciunas should improve enough to make extension valuable for Toronto

Nick Turchiaro/USA TODAY Sports

The first domino of 2015 rookie extensions fell Thursday, with the Toronto Raptors announcing a four-year extension for center Jonas Valanciunas that will be worth $64 million, according to ESPN's Marc Stein.

While Anthony Davis and Damian Lillard already signed extensions last month, both players faced relatively easy negotiations because both All-Stars are going to get the maximum salary possible. With the cap set to escalate, valuing players such as Valanciunas is much trickier. But despite the incredible amount of cash that could be available, the Valanciunas extension suggests more deals may get done because of the emphasis players put on securing their future.
