Giants catcher Buster Posey fouls ball off foot, later leaves game

NEW YORK -- San Francisco Giants catcher Buster Posey left Friday night's game at Yankee Stadium a couple of innings after fouling a ball off his right foot.

X-rays were negative, and Posey was listed as day-to-day.

"I'm just sore right now. We'll have to see tomorrow,'' Posey said after the Giants' 3-2 loss to the New York Yankees.

Less than 24 hours later, Posey was back in the Giants' lineup, batting cleanup and starting at catcher for Saturday afternoon's game.

Posey nicked himself in the second inning and exited in the fourth. He had walked and singled before Trevor Brown replaced him.

Posey is a four-time All-Star and started the showcase game earlier this month. He is hitting .288 with 12 home runs and 44 RBIs.

The National League West-leading Giants already have outfielder Hunter Pence and infielder Joe Panik on the disabled list, among others.
