Didi Gregorius and Yankees agree to $2,425,000 deal

NEW YORK -- Shortstop Didi Gregorius and the New York Yankees have agreed to a one-year contract worth $2,425,000, more than four times the $553,900 he earned last year.

Gregorius' contract is not guaranteed and avoids an arbitration hearing next month. Tuesday's agreement was $12,500 above the midpoint of the $2,525,000 he had asked for and the $2.3 million he had been offered when proposed salaries were exchanged last week.

New York has three players remaining in arbitration: closer Aroldis Chapman and starting pitchers Nathan Eovaldi and Ivan Nova.
