ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Tampa Bay's Chris Archer lost his perfect game bid with one out in the seventh inning when Jose Iglesias reached on an infield single.
Iglesias hit a ball between short and third that shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera fielded, but his off-balance one-hop throw was not in time to beat the Tigers shortstop at first.
Archer also allowed a an RBI single by J.D. Martinez that tied the score at 1-all in the inning. The Tigers lead 2-1, still batting in the seventh inning.
Justin Verlander retired his first 14 batters before Cabrera homered on an 0-1 pitch with two outs in the fifth to become the games' first baserunner.
