Michael Morse on DL for Marlins; pitchers making progress

Miami Marlins first baseman Michael Morse was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a strained ligament in his right ring finger.

Morse is hitting just .211 with two home runs and 10 RBIs.

Morse's status was one of several injury updates offered by the team.

Jose Fernandez will throw a simulated game Wednesday as he continues his comeback from Tommy John surgery. Meanwhile, fellow right-hander Henderson Alvarez is focusing on strengthening his ailing right shoulder and has not been cleared to throw. An MRI revealed no structural damage on Alvarez's shoulder.

Also, right-handers Jarred Cosart (vertigo) and Mat Latos (knee) will work off the mound later this week.
