NEW YORK -- Alex Rodriguez passed Willie Mays for fourth on the career home run list, connecting for No. 661 Thursday night and helping the New York Yankees beat the Baltimore Orioles 4-3.
The Yankees star hit a liner off Baltimore's Chris Tillman (2-4) into a secure area just to the left of Monument Park in center field in the third inning to give New York a 3-2 lead. A-Rod sent a soaring shot in the first that Delmon Young caught by reaching over the top of the wall in right field for a sacrifice fly.
Next up for Rodriguez: Babe Ruth at 714 home runs.
The slugger pumped his fist as he rounded first base, and fans gave Rodriguez a standing ovation as he was greeted warmly in the dugout by his teammates.
Mark Teixeira stepped out of the batter's box as the cheers swelled. Rodriguez briefly emerged from the dugout and waved to the crowd with both hands above his head.
DODGERS 14, BREWERS 4
MILWAUKEE -- Yasmani Grandal drove in eight runs, hitting two homers and reaching base six times to power the Los Angeles Dodgers past the Milwaukee Brewers.
Grandal's two-run single capped a four-run sixth inning. He hit a three-run homer into the second deck in right field in the eighth and launched another three-run shot in the ninth. Grandal went 4 for 4 with two singles and two walks.
Carlos Frias (3-0) gave up three runs and six hits in five innings. Mike Fiers (1-4) allowed five runs, five hits and five walks in five-plus innings.
CARDINALS 5, CUBS 1
ST. LOUIS -- John Lackey hit an RBI double to drive in a run for the third time in his big league career and struck out 10 in 7 2-3 innings as St. Louis won for the ninth time in 10 games.
Jason Heyward singled three times with an RBI, and Peter Bourjos hit a run-scoring triple for the NL Central leaders, who took three of four from the second-place Cubs and improved their record to a major league-best 21-7.
Lackey (2-1) allowed one run and five hits, and Trevor Rosenthal got three straight outs for his 10th save. Jake Arrieta (3-3) gave up five runs -- four earned -- and nine hits in 5 1-3 innings.
TWINS 6, ATHLETICS 5
MINNEAPOLIS -- Eddie Rosario drove in two runs and Glen Perkins got four outs for his 10th save as Minnesota (16-13) won for the seventh time in eighh games and moved three games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2010 season.
Eduardo Escobar also drove in two runs. Ricky Nolasco (2-1) gave up four runs and six hits in five innings.
Drew Pomeranz (1-3) walked a career-high five while giving up six runs -- four earned -- and three hits in 4 1-3 innings.
TIGERS 4, WHITE SOX 1
CHICAGO -- Kyle Lobstein (3-2) allowed five hits in 7 2-3 innings, and Miguel Cabrera scored twice and drove in a run as Detroit salvaged the finale of a three-game series.
Victor Martinez and Nick Castellanos each drove in a run as Detroit bounced back after blowing a 6-3 eighth-inning lead on Wednesday. Joakim Soria struck out all four batters he faced for his 11th save.
Jose Quintana (1-3) allowed two runs and four hits in five innings.
ROYALS 7, INDIANS 4
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Reigning AL Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber remained winless through seven starts this year, with Eric Hosmer hitting a three-run homer in the first inning that sent the Kansas City Royals over the Cleveland Indians.
Kluber (0-5) matched the record for most winless starts by a pitcher after winning a Cy Young. Zack Greinke in 2010 and Frank Viola in 1989 also went seven in a row without a victory.
Kluber gave up five runs on seven hits and two walks in 5 2-3 innings, and left with a 5.04 ERA. In his past four starts, Kluber has a 7.43 ERA, yielding 38 hits and 19 earned runs in 23 innings.
The Cleveland ace went 18-9 with a 2.44 ERA last year.
Franklin Morales (3-0) won with two innings in relief.
PIRATES 7, REDS 2
PITTSBURGH -- A.J. Burnett limited the Cincinnati Reds for seven effective innings and the Pittsburgh Pirates ended a five-game losing streak.
Burnett (1-1) allowed two runs, striking out four and walking two. The 38-year-old now has 2,401 career strikeouts, tied with Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersley for 40th all-time.
Starling Marte and Chris Stewart each drove in two runs for Pittsburgh. Andrew McCutchen went 3 for 4 with an RBI while Neil Walker added two hits and drove in a run.
Todd Frazier went 2 for 3 with his National League-leading 10th home run for Cincinnati and Marlon Byrd chipped in two hits. Anthony DeSclafani (2-3) labored through five innings, giving up three runs.
RANGERS 5, RAYS 4
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Elvis Andrus had a two-run single in a four-run second inning and the Texas Rangers won their fourth straight.
Neither starter, Texas' Nick Martinez or Tampa Bay's Chris Archer, made it through the fifth inning. Martinez (0.84) and Archer (1.64) entered second and third, respectively in ERA in the American League.
Alex Claudio (1-0) went 1 1-3 innings for his first major league victory.
Neftali Feliz pitched the ninth for his fourth save.
Archer (3-4) gave up five runs, four hits, four walks and struck out eight in 3 1-3 innings.
