CHICAGO -- Having already placed a statue of his likeness on the outfield concourse, the White Sox also will honor first baseman Paul Konerko by retiring his No. 14.
The White Sox will celebrate with a ceremony on before their May 23 game against the Minnesota Twins, the team announced Thursday.
The first 20,000 fans in attendance at that game will receive a replica Konerko statue.
Konerko, who played 16 seasons with the White Sox, was a six-time All-Star. He is the franchise leader in total bases with 4,010 and is second in team history with 432 home runs, trailing only Frank Thomas' 448, and third in hits (2,292).
Konerko hit a grand slam in Game 2 of the 2005 World Series as Chicago swept Houston for its first title since 1917.
