Carlos Gonzalez to return Friday

Carlos Gonzalez, out since having a tumor removed from his left index finger on June 10, will return to the Colorado Rockies' lineup on Friday.

Typically a left fielder, Rockies manager Walt Weiss plans to play Gonzalez in right field upon his return.

"CarGo in right is an option," Weiss said, according to the Denver Post. "He profiles well as a right fielder -- prototypical, really."

"He's a guy who can play anywhere," Weiss continued. "He's a very talented outfielder. And he's played all three."

In his first two rehab games, Gonzalez had a home run and three RBIs. He will play one more rehab game on Thursday before returning to the Rockies.

Gonzalez, who also has struggled with knee tendinitis this season, is hitting .255 in 52 games -- 41 points below his career average.
