Trevor Cahill optioned to Class A

PHOENIX -- The Arizona Diamondbacks optioned Trevor Cahill to Class A Visalia on Thursday, three days after they designated the struggling right-hander for assignment.

The 26-year-old Cahill is 1-6 with one save and a 5.66 ERA in 19 appearances -- including four starts -- for Arizona this season. Acquired in a trade with Oakland in 2012, Cahill is due to earn about $17 million in a contract that runs through next year.

Cahill started Thursday night for Visalia, allowing two hits and four runs in two innings at Inland Empire. He gave up an RBI double and three-run homer in the first inning. Cahill struck out four, walked two and hit two batters.

Also Thursday, Arizona claimed infielder/catcher Jordan Pacheco from the Colorado Rockies and designated infielder/outfielder Nick Evans for assignment. Pacheco hit .236 with eight RBIs in 22 games this season for Colorado.

Evans hit .091 in eight games for Arizona after being called up from Triple-A Reno on May 28.
