Josh Hamilton injures left thumb

SEATTLE -- Los Angeles Angels outfielder Josh Hamilton will be slowed the next few days because of a bone bruise on his surgically repaired left thumb.

Manager Mike Scioscia said after Monday's game that Hamilton would be day to day. Scioscia said the bone bruise is not related to the surgery.

Hamilton first experienced discomfort in the thumb last week during his rehab assignment with Triple-A Salt Lake. He was re-evaluated by the Angels training staff in Seattle on Monday with Salt Lake playing just down the road in Tacoma.

Hamilton said he was jammed on a pitch and it would have been better had his bat shattered instead of his hand absorbing the force. He's not expected to try and hit again until at least Wednesday.

The former AL MVP has been on the disabled list since April 9 after tearing a ligament in his left thumb sliding headfirst into first base.
