Rapid Reaction: Yankees 8, Rays 5

NEW YORK -- For the first time this season, the New York Yankees came back from a four-run deficit. The bullpen was great and the Yankees actually hit.

Down early: The Yankees were down 4-0 before they even came to bat. Starter Chris Capuano got only one out before he was lifted.

Home cooking: In the first, Brian McCann got the first run back with another Yankee Stadium homer. On the season, McCann now has 18 homers, 16 of which have been in the Bronx.

More McCann: In the third, McCann knocked home Chris Young and Jacoby Ellsbury with a two-out, two-run single to cut the deficit to one.

Mr. Met: Young, the ex-Met, went deep to tie the game at four in the fourth. Just like that, the Bronx Bombers -- at least for a night -- were back.

Young had three hits, including an eighth-inning RBI double. He was just a triple short of completing the cycle.

On top: In the fifth, after McCann was hit by a pitch, Mark Teixeira knocked a ball into the right-field corner that Wil Myers totally misplayed. No error was charged as Teixeira was credited with a triple and McCann scored from first. Teixeira would come home on a Chase Headley single to make it 6-4.

Jeter nearly goes deep: During the fifth, Derek Jeter hit one deep to left, but it was caught by a backpedaling Ben Zobrist on the warning track. Jeter's last homer came on Aug. 1. He has three on the season.

One out: That's how long Yankees starter Capuano lasted. Capuano gave up four runs on four hits and walked two before he was mercifully lifted by manager Joe Girardi. For his poor work, he got a no-decision due to the Yankees' comeback.

Bully pen: In place of Capuano, Chase Whitley, Preston Claiborne, Adam Warren, Dellin Betances and Esmil Rogers were nearly without a blemish until Rogers gave up a solo shot to Evan Longoria with two outs in the ninth.

Wild-card standings: Here is the latest.

Attendance: 31,591.

On deck: The Yankees send Michael Pineda (3-4, 1.80 ERA) to the mound to face Alex Cobb (9-7, 2.83).
