WASHINGTON -- Jason Bay is due to rejoin the Mets on Wednesday in D.C. after playing a full game in left field and going 0-for-3 with a walk Tuesday for Class A St. Lucie, team officials acknowledged.

The news was not positive for Ruben Tejada, though. Terry Collins announced postgame that Tejada is expected to be removed from his rehab assignment with Triple-A Buffalo after pulling himself from Tuesday's game with quadriceps tightness. Tejada should return to the Mets' complex in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

"I just know his leg tightened up on him. He was afraid to run. So he took himself out of the game," Collins said. "So he's probably headed back to Florida."

Collins said after Tuesday's 7-6, 12-inning loss to the Nationals that there were no reinforcements coming at shortstop -- from inside or outside the organization.

Omar Quintanilla and Jordany Valdespin combined to commit three errors in the defeat. Ronny Cedeno (left calf strain), like Tejada, remains on the disabled list.

Asked if the Mets needed to trade for a shortstop, Collins said: "I doubt it. ... I'm fine with Quintanilla. ... He'll be fine until Ronny is back.

"You've got to do what's right," the manager continued, when asked about any future hesitance using Valdespin at shortstop. "If (Quintanilla) is up and you've got to pinch hit, Valdespin has to go play shortstop. That's just the way it is."
