Carmelo Anthony has some bad news for those who wanted to see the Knicks trade him by the Feb. 20 deadline and blow up the roster.

"I don't think I'll be traded," he said. "When is the trade deadline? I don't think there's no way possible I'll be traded. I don't think they're even considering it.

"If they feel they want to get rid of me, we'd already have had that conversation. I don't think that. I know for a fact I'm not being traded, and I know for a fact I'm not going in there saying I want to be traded."

The only way the Knicks would have considered trading Anthony before the deadline is if Anthony himself told him he had no interest in re-signing over the summer.

Instead, Anthony, according to published reports, said on Friday that his first priority is to re-sign with the Knicks. He also said he'd be willing to take a pay cut if it gave the Knicks a better opportunity to pursue free agents in the offseason.

But Anthony also made sure to note that he wanted to hear the Knick front office's plan to build a winner around him before he signed on the dotted line.

So it's still not a sure thing that Anthony will end up back in New York. If Anthony tells the Knicks that he's unlikely to sign over the summer, New York could pursue a sign-and-trade.

Earlier this season, the Knicks prepared for the possibility of trading Anthony.

According to ESPN's Chris Broussard, they discussed internally the idea of trading Anthony for Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin. If the Knicks are forced to pursue a sign-and-trade with Anthony this summer, Griffin is a name that will surely come up. Chicago could be a potential trading partner in that scenario as well.
