Report: Sacramento waives Eric Moreland

It was a short stay at training camp for Eric Moreland, who was waived by the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday. Moreland was invited to Kings' camp for the second straight year, and made the team's opening day roster last season.

The forward appeared in three games for Sacramento before being shut down for the remainder of the season with a shoulder injury. If Moreland was on Sacramento's roster on Aug. 1 his contract would have become guaranteed. Jason Jones of The Sacramento Bee writes:

"Moreland, a 6-foot-10, 238-pound forward, was a standout during summer league in 2014 and made the Kings’ roster out of training camp as an undrafted rookie from Oregon State. He played in three games before his season ended after surgery to repair a left shoulder tear. After recovering from surgery, Moreland played for the Kings’ summer-league team this month. His strengths, notably defense and athleticism, are traits the Kings need, but when the team drafted Kentucky center Willie Cauley-Stein for the same qualities, Moreland became expendable."

The Kings now have 13 guaranteed contracts on their roster for the 2015-16 season.
