Wednesday's Pelicans Links: New Orleans 'doing everything' possible to land All-Star Game

Pelicans, New Orleans 'doing everything that we can' to land All-Star Game: The New Orleans Pelicans and the city of New Orleans are "doing everything that we can" to land the 2017 NBA All-Star Game, team president Dennis Lauscha said on the club's in-house podcast Tuesday. Speaking to Sean Kelley on Tuesday's Black & Blue Report, Lauscha confirmed that New Orleans is a candidate to host the game after the NBA announced last week it would pull it from Charlotte over concerns about North Carolina House Bill 2, which eliminated anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. -- The Advocate

Finally a Pelican, Solomon Hill sets sights on expanding his game: The pursuit began in earnest at the start of this free-agency period. But in a way, the New Orleans Pelicans always were chasing Solomon Hill. New Orleans' new small forward still remembers the meeting with Pelicans general manager Dell Demps. It was at Los Angeles International Airport during the predraft process in 2013. Hill had just completed a four-year career at Arizona, and it was unlikely the Pelicans would be in position to draft him. -- The Advocate

Solomon Hill ready to expand his offensive game, emerge as a starter for Pelicans: During his three seasons with the Indiana Pacers, Solomon Hill didn't establish a reputation as a reliable scoring threat at small forward. He did not average more than 8.9 points a game or shoot better than 45 percent from the field. But after signing a four-year, $52 million free agent contract with the Pelicans, Hill said he is thrilled about finally having an opportunity to expand his game and emerge as a bigger scoring threat. -- The Times-Picayune
