Thursday's Jazz Links: No Trey Lyles, no problem as Jazz beat Blazers

No Trey Lyles, no problem for Summer Jazz thanks to Tibor Pleiss, Joel Bolomboy: Trey Lyles might start getting a complex if things continue like this. “He should,” Jazz assistant Mike Wells jokingly said. For the second time since they began their summer-league schedule a week and a half ago, the Utah Jazz opted to give their second-year pro the day off. And for only the second time in seven games, the Jazz won. -- Deseret News

Shelvin Mack talks staying with the Jazz: Utah Jazz point guard Shelvin Mack has worn the same smile for the past few days down in Las Vegas. The good mood is for good reason. He doesn't have to go shopping for a team this summer, since the Jazz guaranteed the final year of his contract, something that was in question heading into free agency. Mack was traded to the Jazz in February from the Atlanta Hawks, and almost instantly became Utah's starting point guard. Still, with the Jazz trading for George Hill and Dante Exum closing in on his return from knee surgery, there were questions about whether Mack would be back in the fold on opening night. -- The Salt Lake Tribune

Utah Jazz handle Blazers in tournament opener: Four players scored in double-figures. The ball moved to the tune of 14 assists. The defense held Portland to 38 percent shooting. In many ways on Wednesday night, the Utah Jazz played their best game of the entire summer, a team effort that overwhelmed the Trail Blazers on both ends of the floor at Thomas & Mack Center. The result was an 86-71 victory in the first tournament game for the Jazz. -- The Salt Lake Tribune
