MLB Rumor Central: Rangers could change outfield alignment

Texas Rangers outfielder Ian Desmond played center field for the fifth time this season on Wednesday and could start to see more time at the position moving forward.

With regular right fielder Shin-Soo Choo nearing his return from a calf injury that sent him to the disabled list, the Rangers have discussed the possibility of keeping Desmond in center so breakout rookie Nomar Mazara can stay with the club as the left fielder, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.

Mazara was called up once Choo was injured and has performed well since then, hitting .325 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 21 games. Meanwhile, starting center fielder Delino DeShields has struggled this season (.239 batting average), paving the way for Desmond to take over that job.

Choo could return by the middle of the month, Rosenthal writes.
