Texas Rangers general manager Jon Daniels chatted with ESPN Dallas 103.3 FM's Ben & Skin on Thursday morning about a variety of topics. Here's a few highlights:

* The club had a meeting to discuss the roster, though nothing has been decided in regards to the position battles. Daniels said that's for a longer later discussion. This meeting was more about starting to trim the roster and finding out what the coaches felt like they were seeing on the field.

* Daniels said he's not concerned about Josh Hamilton's jammed heel, but is curious to see how Craig Gentry's sprained wrist responds after a few days of taking it easy. He was more worried about Gentry than Hamilton, in other words.

* On Robbie Ross: "Everything he throws moves and hitters have a tough time squaring them up, always have. He gets a ton of ground balls, has improved his slider, like a true power slider. He’s always been very tough against lefties and righties, he fields his position, holds runners and does all the little things you like ot see. We’re going to continue to give him opportunities and we’ll put him in against the better portions of the lineup to make sure we don’t get fooled facing Double-A hitters. He’s very much in the mix right now."

* Daniels admitted that Alexi Ogando probably deserves to start based on what he did last year, but that in the big picture, it's likely better for the overall club if he's in the bullpen. No firm decision has been made and the club won't make it definitive until later this spring, especially after what happened last spring with Tommy Hunter hurting his groin right before the end of camp, forcing Ogando into the rotation.
