Ten former players set for Konerko Day

The Chicago White Sox announced 10 former players who will be in attendance on Paul Konerko Day this upcoming Saturday, including five who played at some point with the 2005 World Series championship team.

The list of 2005 players in attendance includes Brian Anderson, Joe Crede, Ross Gload, Scott Podsednik and Cliff Politte. Also participating in a pregame ceremony that will celebrate Konerko’s career will be Jim Thome, Chris Getz, Mark Kotsay, Sean Lowe and Craig Wilson.

The White Sox say that Saturday’s celebration will include multiple video tributes for Konerko, as well as a presentation of gifts for the retiring team captain, who played 16 seasons on the South Side. He is the franchise leader in total bases at 4,008 and his 432 home runs are second in franchise history behind Frank Thomas' 448.

Just four more home games remain in Konerko’s career, all against the Kansas City Royals in a series that starts Thursday. The team will continue its Club Konerko fan area in sections 158 and 159 that includes a Konerko collectible with every ticket purchase.

Konerko returned to the field this past weekend after fracturing a bone in his left hand earlier this month.
