Rapid Reaction: Cubs 9, Diamondbacks 6

PHOENIX --The Chicago Cubs (24-18) offense busted out of a week-long slumber, posting a 9-6 come-from-behind victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks (20-22) at Chase Field on Saturday.

How it happened: Anthony Rizzo hit a three-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to break a 6-6 tie. The Cubs first baseman was the offensive star as he tied a career high with 6 RBIs while going 2-for-5. His other RBIs came off a three-run double in the fifth. Jorge Soler tied the game at six in the eighth with a two-out, two-run double. The Cubs scored five runs in the final two innings.

What it means: Chicago evened the three-game series against Arizona with the rubber game set for Sunday afternoon. The Cubs also moved to within 2.5 games of first-place St. Louis, which lost its second in a row at Kansas City on Saturday.

Pair of threes: Both teams had a player hit a three-run double during a fifth inning that saw the teams combine for seven runs. Rizzo did the honors for Chicago after nearly hitting a grand slam when his high fly ball went off the top of the wall in left field for a double; the Cubs took a short-lived 4-2 lead. David Peralta returned the favor in the bottom of the inning with a drive off the base of the wall in left-center field. All three runs were unearned, though, as Arizona loaded the bases in part due to an error by Addison Russell who dropped a flip from Starlin Castro on an attempted double play.

Still Streaking: Kris Bryant extended his hitting streak to 12 games with a single to right field in the fourth inning.

Armed and Dangerous: During the nine seasons Miguel Montero played in Arizona, the one knock on his game was his caught stealing percentage. His former team tested the Cubs catcher, but Montero was up to the challenge as he threw out both Diamondbacks runners who attempted to steal second.

Up next: The Cubs close out their three-game series against the Diamondbacks on Sunday, as well as their six-game road trip. Right-hander Jason Hammel (3-1, 2.70 ERA) will start for Chicago with right-hander Jeremy Hellickson (1-3, 5.52) taking the hill for Arizona. First pitch is at 3:10 p.m. CT from Chase Field.
