A Moment in Time: David Ortiz's slam

The 2013 Boston Red Sox had the confidence that comes from winning 97 games and the feeling of destiny that comes from winning unexpectedly. But in the eighth inning on Oct. 13 at Fenway Park, that confidence and that sense of destiny were being tested.

The Red Sox needed something dramatic. They needed a David Ortiz moment. They got it, with a grand slam that landed, along with the Tigers' Torii Hunter, in the right-center-field bullpen and tied the game.

"It was like a huge weight was lifted," Red Sox GM Ben Cherington said. "From that point, it seemed like we were going to win."

And they did.

A year later, ESPN revisits the Ortiz grand slam through the eyes of the figures involved. Here's the play.
