Athletics cut down roster

PHOENIX -- The Oakland Athletics optioned right-hander Shane
Komine and outfielder Javier Herrera to Triple-A Sacramento before
their game against the Seattle Mariners on Monday.

Herrera, one of the A's top prospects, missed last year after
reconstructive right elbow surgery. Komine appeared in two games
for Oakland last season, allowing five runs in nine innings with no
decisions.

In addition, left-hander Derek Thompson, catcher John Baker were
reassigned to the A's minor league camp.
