Northeastern 77, Delaware 67

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) -- Eugene Spates scored 12 points during a 22-6 first-half run for Northeastern on Friday and the Huskies never looked back in a 77-67 victory against Delaware in the first round of the Colonial Athletic Association tournament.

The Huskies (13-18) stretched their winning streak to four games and advanced to a quarterfinal game against fourth-seeded Drexel on Saturday. Delaware finished 5-26.

The Blue Hens led 10-2 before Spates came off the bench and ignited the burst with two 3-pointers. Bennet Davis added 8 points during the run, which ended with the Huskies ahead 24-16. The Blue Hens could get no closer than seven the rest of the half.

After the break, the Huskies extended their margin to as many as 23 with 14:08 to play before Delaware rallied to within 8 with 34.1 seconds remaining.

Spates and Davis led Northeastern with 20 points. Bobby Kelly added 15 and Matt Janning 13.

Herb Courtney led the Blue Hens with 24 points, Sam McMahon added 17 and Brian Johnson 15.
