A daily glance inside the numbers from the world of sports:
NHL
• The Thrashers led the Devils 1-0 through two periods but New Jersey scored a pair of power-play goals 28 seconds apart in the third period to beat Atlanta 2-1. It was the fourth consecutive game in which the Thrashers took a lead into the third period but failed to win. (Atlanta is 0-2-2 over that stretch.) That matches the second-longest such streak in NHL history. The Canucks hold the record, taking a lead into the third period but coming up winless in six consecutive games in March 1986, while the Capitals had a four-game streak in March 1982.
• Martin Brodeur's victory over the Thrashers ended a seven-game winless streak for him against Atlanta (0-4-3). That streak matched the longest stretch of consecutive winless decisions against any team in Brodeur's NHL career. He was 0-5-2 against Tampa Bay from January 2003 to October 2005.
With Brodeur's drought against the Thrashers snapped, his longest current winless streak against a particular opponent is a mere two decisions (vs. the Ducks, Avalanche, Stars, Red Wings and Coyotes).
Despite the long drought, Brodeur has a 13-6-6 record in 25 career games against Atlanta. That ties him with Olaf Kolzig (13-10-6) for the most wins versus the Thrashers by any goaltender.
• Nashville's Tomas Vokoun made 22 saves in posting a 2-0 shutout against Columbus. Vokoun, who is 17-6-1 in 25 career games against the Blue Jackets, has recorded six more wins against Columbus than any other goaltender. (Manny Legace, Evgeni Nabokov and Chris Osgood each have 11.) Vokoun's shutout was his third against the Blue Jackets, tying him with Nabokov, Patrick Roy, Roberto Luongo and David Aebischer for the most ever by a Columbus opponent.
NBA
• On Friday night, Andre Iguodala played in his 200th NBA game. Iguodala has started all 200 Sixers games without a miss since he entered the league in 2004. Over the last 20 years, only two other players started at least 200 consecutive games to begin their NBA career: Mike Bibby, 248 (1999-2002); and Clarence Weatherspoon, 213 (1992-1995).
• Ray Allen had 54 points and 10 rebounds in Seattle's win. Over the last 35 years, only four other guards recorded a 50/10 game: Michael Jordan (eight times), Tracy McGrady (twice), LeBron James and Kobe Bryant.
• Joe Johnson made his first 11 shots from the field in Atlanta's win over Detroit. Only one other player hit his first 11 shots in a game this season: San Antonio's Fabricio Oberto, who went 11-for-11 for the Spurs in a game on Nov. 8.
• Emeka Okafor had 20 points and 10 blocks in the Bobcats' win at Madison Square Garden. Over the last 11 seasons, only three other players reached those levels in both categories in an NBA game: Shawn Bradley for Dallas in April 1998 (22 points, 13 blocks), Dikembe Mutombo for Atlanta in February 2000 (21, 11), and Amare Stoudemire for Phoenix in February 2004 (20, 10).
• The Hornets have won 10 straight home games against the Wizards. The odd thing about this streak, however, is that the 10 games were played in three different venues. The first three games were played at the Charlotte Coliseum, the next five were played at the New Orleans Arena and the last two were played at the Ford Center in Oklahoma City.
• Marcus Camby had 24 rebounds in the Nuggets' loss to the Rockets. Andrew Bogut had 24 rebounds in the Bucks' loss to the 76ers. The last time two NBA players had 24 or more rebounds on the same day was Jan. 10, 1997, when Charles Barkley (25) and Dennis Rodman (26) both did it. But both Barkley and Rodman were on winning teams that night. The last time two players had that many rebounds on the same day in which both teams lost was Feb. 19, 1992, when both Dennis Rodman (25) and Kevin Willis (33 in overtime) did it in a losing effort.
Seventeen of Bogut's rebounds came in the first half. Bogut is the first player to grab 17 or more rebounds in one half of an NBA game since Toronto's Chris Bosh had 17 boards in the second half of a game at Philadelphia on March 25, 2005.
MLS
• The first six picks in Friday's MLS SuperDraft were all from schools in the Atlantic Coast Conference. It was the first time that even the first four picks in an MLS draft were from the same conference. The first three picks in 2001 were all from ACC schools: Chris Carrieri from UNC (Earthquakes), Ali Curtis from Duke (Mutiny), and Mark Lisi from Clemson (D.C. United).
