Rockies agree to two-year contract with IF Carroll

DENVER -- The Colorado Rockies on Wednesday agreed to
terms with infielder Jamey Carroll on a two-year contract that
includes a club option for 2009.

Financial terms were not disclosed, but Carroll did make
$700,000 last season.

In his first year with the Rockies, Carroll hit .300 with five
home runs, 36 RBIs and 84 runs scored in 136 games as the team's
primary leadoff man.

Defensively, the 33-year-old appeared primarily at second base,
posting a National League-leading and club-record .995 fielding
percentage in 102 games. Carroll also led all major league
second basemen with 3.99 assists per nine innings.

Carroll also made 10 appearances at shortstop and eight at third
base.

In five seasons with the Montreal-Washington franchise and the
Rockies, Carroll has hit .280 with seven homers and 90 RBIs in
1,282 at-bats.
