WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. -- Brian Boland threw for 226 yards
and a touchdown and Monmouth's defense had a strong showing as the
Hawks beat St. Peter's 36-12 on Saturday. Monmouth (3-0) had trouble moving the ball early on, but they
took command of the game on their opening possession of the third
quarter, going 76 yards in three plays in a drive that culminated
with Leonard Brice's 9-yard touchdown run. Monmouth then had two apparent touchdowns -- including a 96-yard
pass from Boland to Adam San Miguel -- called back due to penalties
before Rob Lutz ran in from seven yards out. Ryan Skorupka then
closed out the scoring with a 24-yard run late in the fourth
quarter. Boland was 20-of-31 on the day, including a 5-yard scoring pass
to Michael McClelland, while San Miguel led all receivers with 11
catches for 168 yards. David Sinisi also added a 4-yard touchdown
run for Monmouth. Meanwhile, the Hawks defense kept the Peacocks offense in check
for most of the day, recording three sacks, two interceptions and
holding St. Peter's to just 53 net rushing yards. The Peacocks had jumped out to a 7-0 lead when Scott Bonnono hit
Raheem Onibudo down the left sideline for a 44-yard scoring pass on
the Peacocks second possession. However, their offense sputtered
for most of the day, and their only other scores came on field
goals of 31 and 37 yards by Jacob Thomas. Bonnono completed 31-of-49 for 273 yards, while Jaleel Kindell
had nine receptions for 97 yards.
