Padres general manager Kevin Towers has this analogy about the value of closers: Imagine you go to a beautiful restaurant, great ambiance, everything you would want in atmosphere. You have a drink, place your orders, the food is rolled out, and it's outstanding. Couldn't be better. You finish your meal, greatly satisfied.

And then you wait 45 angry minutes for your check to be brought to the table.
"Ruins everything that came before it," Towers said. "You'd never go back there."
