Sprinters lead U.S. to victory at Russia's Challenge

MOSCOW -- American sprinters led the United States to
victory over Russia at the Russia's Challenge meet Saturday.

The U.S. and Russia split the 10 events, but the visitors won
98.5-93.5 at the one-day meet. Russia had won the previous two
tournaments.

Olympic 200-meter champion Shawn Crawford won the 100 in 10.15
seconds, beating countrymen Wallace Spearmon and Rodney Martin.

American Stephanie Durst won the women's 100 in 11.28, bettering
Russia's Yulia Gushchina by 0.06, and Natalya Rusakova by 0.07.

Khadevis Robinson of the U.S. finished in 1 minute, 47.52
seconds to win the 800, which was without Olympic champion Yuri
Borzakovsky. Russians Ivan Nesterov and Dmitry Bogdanov got silver
and bronze, respectively.

Two-time Olympic silver medalist Terrence Trammel won the 110
hurdles in 13.44, 0.06 ahead of teammate Ron Bramlett, with Igor
Peremota of Russia finishing third.

World champion Michelle Perry of the U.S. took the women's 100
hurdles in 12.84 seconds, while teammate Danielle Carruthers was
runner-up.

For Russia, European champion Lyudmila Kolchanova won the long
jump with a leap of 23 feet.

World champion and record holder Julia Nosova-Pechonkina of
Russia clocked 53.14 to win the women's 400 hurdles, beating
Lashinda Demus and teammate Sandra Glover of the U.S.

Russia's Yaroslav Rybakov won the high jump with a height of
7-6½, besting countryman Ivan Ukhov and American Jamie Nieto, who
finished third.

Russia won both men's and women's 400 relays.
