Yankees activate 2B Cano, place IF Cairo on DL

CHICAGO -- The New York Yankees on Tuesday activated
second baseman Robinson Cano from the 15-day disabled list.

Sidelined since June 26 with an injured left hamstring, Cano is
batting seventh in Tuesday night's game against the Chicago
White Sox.

The 23-year-old Cano is hitting .325 with four home runs and 27
RBIs in 69 games.

To make room for Cano, the Yankees placed infielder Miguel Cairo
on the 15-day DL with a strained left hamstring.

Cairo left Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles in the
third inning after running out a ground ball. He is batting
.234 with no homers and 25 RBIs in 67 games.

The Yankees (66-42) started Tuesday with a two-game lead over
the Boston Red Sox in the American League East Division.
