Society Hostess wins Belmont's Elizabeth Bay Stakes

NEW YORK -- Society Hostess edged Gilded Gold by a neck
Friday in the $69,000 Elizabeth Bay Stakes for fillies and mares
Friday at Belmont Park.

Society Hostess, seventh in the early stages, split rivals
entering the stretch and swung wide under Garrett Gomez to nip the
pacesetting Gilded Gold.

The time was 1:08.95 for six furlongs on the good turf course.

Society Hostess earned $41,400 for the Moyglare Stud Farm as the
5-year-old improved her career record to five wins in 11 starts.
She is unbeaten in two starts in the United States for trainer
Christophe Clement after starting her career in Europe.

Society Hostess paid $10.20, $5.20 and $2.80. Lemon Drop Gal,
elevated to second after Gilded Gold was disqualified for stretch
interference, returned $7.70 and $3.40. Gilded Gold, the 6-5
favorite, paid $2.30 to show.
