UPDATE 1-Tennis-Murray shakes off injury to win, Hrbaty beaten

(Adds Tipsarevic win)

NOTTINGHAM, England, June 21 - Andy Murray showed
his fighting spirit when he defeated last year's finalist Max
Mirnyi 7-6 6-4 despite an injury at the Nottingham Open on
Wednesday.

Unseeded Andreas Seppi of Italy upset second seed Slovak
Dominik Hrbaty 7-5 7-5 in the second round.

Champion Richard Gasquet moved one step closer to
successfully defending his crown by beating Italian Daniele
Bracciali 7-5 6-3.

The 19-year-old Murray, who hurt his ankle in Tuesday's
first round, struggled with Mirnyi's serve-and-volley game but
fought through to take the first set in 43 minutes.

In the second set, with the wind sweeping across the court,
the British wildcard relied on solid returns to unsettle the
1.95 metres tall Belarussian.

"I thought I did pretty well today bar a few bad backhands,"
Murray said.

Thailand's Paradorn Srichaphan, 2004 winner, lost 7-6 6-7
7-5 to qualifier Janko Tipsarevic of Serbia & Montenegro.

Spaniard Feliciano Lopez got off to a weak start against
Paul Goldstein before clinching a 3-6 6-2 6-3 victory over the
American.
