Soccer-World-Kosowski doubtful for Poles against Germany

By Patrick Graham

HANOVER, June 11 - A strained hamstring may keep
Poland midfielder Kamil Kosowski out of Wednesday's Group A game
against Germany in Dortmund, a team spokesman said on Sunday.

"Kamil has a problem with his hamstring. The doctor is
considering whether to okay him for Wednesday. He is doubtful,"
Kazimierz Oleszek told Reuters by phone from the team's base in
Barsinghausen.

Coach Pawel Janas gave the squad the day off on Sunday after
returning from Friday's shock 2-0 defeat by Ecuador in
Gelsenkirchen.

The Poles head to Dortmund with the unenviable task of
trying to beat Germany for the first time in 85 years.

Defeat would guarantee a second successive early exit from
the finals after they failed to make the second round in Korea
four years ago.

"The camp is full of talk of what Janas could and should
do," Oleszek said. "Some think he should stick by the team from
Friday, others that he should make radical changes. For now it's
too early to say what he will do."

A failure in two seasons with Kaiserslautern in Germany,
Kosowski has struggled to hold a starting spot at Southampton
this year.

He has 46 caps and four goals for the national team and came
off the bench for the last quarter of an hour against Ecuador on
Friday.
