CLEMSON, S.C. -- Pat Irvine's pinch-hit, two-out single in
the bottom of the eighth lifted Elon to its first NCAA tournament
victory.
Elon (45-16) will face the Clemson-North Carolina Asheville
winner Saturday, and Mississippi State will play the loser.
Jesse Lewter (5-1) worked 2 1-3 innings of relief for the
victory, and Chad Tilley gave up a leadoff hit in the ninth, but
retired the final three batters for his 11th save. Brooks Dunn
(8-6) was the loser.
