Winthrop 78, NC Asheville 65

ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) -- Phillip Williams scored 19 points as Big
South-leading Winthrop downed N.C.-Asheville 78-65 in league action
Wednesday night.

Torrell Martin scored 15 points for the Eagles (17-6, 11-2 Big
South), who won their fourth straight game. James Shuler had 14
points.

Omar Collington led the Bulldogs (8-16, 6-8) with 24 points, and
Joseph Barber had 15.

Three-point baskets made the difference in the first half, when
Winthrop connected on five and the Bulldogs on none of their six
attempts. Winthrop led 27-20 at halftime.

Williams scored 14 points in the second half, and the Eagles led
53-38 with 10 minutes left. N.C.-Asheville cut the lead to 59-51 at
the 7:14 mark, but the Eagles scored four quick points and never
let the Bulldogs get closer than 10 points the rest of the game.

Collington scored 21 of his 24 points in the second half.
