Three Minnesotans join USA men's hockey team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- Three more Minnesotans are headed
to Italy with the United States men's Olympic hockey team.

Bret Hedican, a St. Paul native who plays for the Carolina
Hurricanes in the NHL, was picked Monday to replace the injured
Aaron Miller on the active roster.

"We feel bad for Aaron that he's unable to be part of the
team," Team USA general manager Don Waddell said in a statement.
"At the same time, we're extremely fortunate to be able to replace
Aaron with someone the caliber of Bret Hedican."

Matt Cullen, a Virginia, Minn., native who went to Moorhead High
School, and Elk River's Paul Martin were added to the team's "taxi
squad," a group of players that travels with the team to Italy and
is available if any of the active players are injured.

Cullen, who also plays for Carolina, and Hedican both played for
St. Cloud State and will join fellow Husky Mark Parrish on the
team.

Martin plays for the New Jersey Devils and was a star defenseman
for the University of Minnesota in college.
