Dallas 1, Kansas City 0

DALLAS (AP) -- Toni Nhleko scored in the 17th minute and Scott
Garlick recorded his second consecutive shutout in the Dallas
Burn's 1-0 victory Saturday night over the Kansas City Wizards.

Garlick finished with six saves as Dallas (2-0-1) extended its
scoreless streak to more than 234 minutes and handed Kansas City
(1-1-1) its first loss of the season.

Nhleko scored an unassisted goal on the Burn counterattack when
he dribbled past the Wizards' defense, split two defenders then
fired a shot into the center of the net from about 10 yards away.

It was Nhleko's first goal of the season, and the first scored
against Kansas City. Wizards goalie Tony Meola's scoreless streak
ended at 197 minutes.

Kansas City's Matt Taylor had a goal called back in the 86th
minute when he was called for an offside penalty on what would have
tied the game.

The Wizards almost scored in the 49th minute when Diego Walsh
had an open shot at the Burn goal. But Garlick came out of the box
and forced Walsh to alter his shot which, drifted wide left.

Dallas won despite being without two top players. Forward Jason
Kreis and defender Chris Gbandi missed the game with injuries.

The game also marked the first game since May 2 for Dallas
native and Kansas City defender Jose Burciaga Jr. He's returning
from a torn ACL in his right knee.
