De'Anthony Thomas hurt on kickoff

EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon running back De'Anthony Thomas hurt his right ankle returning the opening kickoff against California on Saturday night.

Thomas grasped his lower leg before he was helped off the field. Later he was seen on the sidelines without his helmet. He reappeared after the half on crutches, but because Oregon does not discuss injuries as a policy it is unclear how serious it is.

After Oregon's 55-16 victory, Thomas said the injured ankle had not yet been X-rayed. He said he was trying to make a move but "it was slippery out there."

"I'm very focused," said Thomas, who was uncertain about his status for next week's game at Colorado. "I'll get back there when I can."

The speedy junior, who runs on the track team, leads the second-ranked Ducks with 338 yards rushing and six touchdowns. He has 485 all-purpose yards through Oregon's first three games.

Byron Marshall led Oregon (4-0, 1-0 Pac-12) in rushing with 130 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries. Thomas Tyner also added a touchdown and 94 yards on 13 carries.

Last season, Thomas ran for 701 yards and 11 touchdowns and caught 45 passes for 445 yards and five more scores. He scored on a kickoff return and a punt return. He was the first Oregon player in 47 years with a touchdown four different ways.
