Scouting Sunday's Elite Eight

Insider Men's College Basketball, Michigan State Spartans, Louisville Cardinals, Duke Blue Devils, Gonzaga Bulldogs

There are no dark horses left in this 2015 NCAA tournament. The lowest surviving seed seed is Michigan State, and the Spartans got here by beating the best possible seeds the bracket could throw at them. These are all heavyweights, and with any luck we may be treated to a classic or two.

Here's how I see these games playing out:

(2) Gonzaga vs. (1) Duke

Since 1985 and including the 2015 tournament, there have been 36 meetings of a region's top two seeds in the Elite Eight. Historically, the top seed hasn't enjoyed much of an advantage in these collisions, however, and I won't be surprised if that's the case in the South Region as well.

1. There will be points . . .

These are two of the best offenses in the country, and both teams have more or less maintained that same level of production in the tournament. Duke's shooting 59 percent on its 2s in the past three games, and for Gonzaga that number is 57 percent. Thankfully, we apparently won't have to worry too much about the negative effects of the NRG Stadium background on 3-point accuracy. Neither team has been attempting a particularly high number of 3s in the tournament.
