Saints will promote Seantavius Jones from practice squad

METAIRIE, La. -- The New Orleans Saints will promote undrafted rookie receiver Seantavius Jones from the practice squad to the 53-man roster, a league source has confirmed.

Jones will fill the spot that was vacated when the Saints released receiver Joe Morgan on Tuesday. It’s unknown if Jones will see any playing time, though, since veteran Robert Meachem is the more natural candidate to replace Morgan in the rotation.

The Saints typically go with four active receivers on game days, and they still have Marques Colston, Kenny Stills, Nick Toon and Meachem on the roster.

Jones (6-foot-3, 200 pounds) joined the Saints immediately after the draft out of Valdosta State. He earned a spot on the practice squad with a consistently solid camp, including three catches for 17 yards and a touchdown in the preseason. Jones also played special teams during the preseason and could potentially contribute in that area.

The Saints will likely have two new additions to the practice squad when they resume practice today after releasing practice squad fullback Michael Zordich this week.

Today is the Saints’ first practice since they’re on their “Monday Night Football” schedule heading into Monday’s game at the Chicago Bears.
