Crystal Dangerfield, a 5-foot-6 point guard and the No. 3 prospect in the espnW HoopGurlz Super 60 for the 2016 class, has given a verbal commitment to Connecticut.

"I attended UConn's Midnight Madness and was amazed by the tradition represented that evening," Dangerfield said. "I really wasn't thinking of making my decision at any particular time, but after my UConn experience and meeting with the coaching staff, I made my decision."

Others in the running for the electric point guard from Blackman (Murfreesboro, Tennessee) were Vanderbilt, Mississippi, South Carolina, LSU and Maryland.

Dangerfield is no stranger to winning. She led Blackman to a 34-1 record, a state championship and the No. 1 ranking in the final espnW Power Rankings as a sophomore in 2013-14. Dangerfield was named Tennessee's Gatorade Player of the Year after averaging 14.5 points, 3.6 assists, 2.9 steals and 2.7 rebounds per game.

Dangerfield, a gold medalist with Team USA's under-16 team in 2013, is Geno Auriemma's first commit for the 2016 class. The Huskies have verbals from three prospects in the 2015 class who are expected to sign their national letters of intent next week: No. 1 Katie Lou Samuelson, No. 7 Napheesa Collier and No. 22 De'Janae Boykin.
