Wrestling seemed more popular than boxing if you go by the number of hits on the IOC website the last few Olympics. Whatever...the IOC committee is probably looking at getting better worldwide TV ratings. Baseball/softball may require many host countries to build enough facilities for that sport and may not be used after the Olympics. Building costs can be lower by eliminating those sports. Olympics should consider extending the games another week so people can attend more events. Lower the price of tickets to the prelims and qualifying rounds. Corp/sponsors block buys should be reviewed to free up tickets for the average person(s). Yeah everybody wants to see the finals but hiring/organizing cheerleading seat fillers is kind of embarrassing and you might as well open the doors and let people in for free. People have complained about getting nosebreed seats but yet see blocks of empty seats at prime viewing areas and cant move there. Olympics have bigger structural problems than deciding which sports to include or drop.

Good points. IOC Have diluted the Olympics so much that they may need to extend the games. Agree, It is sad to say but boxing is suffering especially with the terrible scoring. Baseball is not worth it with minor league or college players. If you can't bring the best then don't bother. Unfortunately can't see how they can bring ticket prices down.

Baseball/softball are hardly sports. If fat $@%!$ can play, it shouldn't be called a sport.

For every 100 people glad about the IOC 'dumping these sports, there are 100 wrestlers, Baseball players and softball players somewhere practicing their a.sses off because they dreamed of the chance to play in the olympics! For some athletes, it is their 'SuperBowl' or it is their 'World Series', but yet the decision to 'dump' them were made by a group of rich individuals who have more interest in money than they do 'Tradition'.
