This is why the NCAA needs a commissioner for each sport! Boise is irrelevant in basketball, now walking into a major basketball conference. The Big East has lost its AQ tag in football--mistake #2. Small stadium located in the middle of nowhere with impending scholarship sanctions for violating NCAA rules. Congratulations Boise for making the potato state relevant for a short period of time! Back to reality. An independent tag may have proved better in the end. Keep me posted on the next conference (in football) joined because I have a feeling it will be soon. Perhaps, the Big West?! jm

Holy cow all you BSU homers are all the same ... join a real conference otherwise enjoy being in stupid bowl games and losing to teams like NEVADA for the rest of years.

No one is afraid to play BSU....BSU demands too much money for the game and INSISTS on a home and home when their stadium is in the 33k range and not feasible to host a school that travels well which is the case for most SEC schools, Nebraska, etc.

Hmmm - this looks almost like C-USA from several years ago. These losers should not even come close to having an automatic BCS bid. Thankfully we're moving to the saving grace, the playoff system.

Boise State and SDSU, in the Big East means that this conference is not Big East anymore, two very far west teams in the conference. So that this college football league changing is kind of ridiculous, to me it kind of ruins the sport. The BCS is the main reason of these changes also for the money, but really why is this the reason for changes. It ruins tradition and style of playing in rivalries. Teams should stay in their respective regions and not travel across the whole nation to play a conference game.

Thank the BCS for ruining the sport. Plain and simple. If they do things like the NFL, now that's how football is played. Regional competition and sense to go with it. These BCS people just want to make a buck off of NCAA. Because they can, as long as there is College football, we may never see the end of it.

You cant have it both ways....if not for the BCS, BSU would NEVER have played in the Fiesta Bowl....EVER....so all the millions that BSU earned from these BCS bowls would never have come their way. Why bite the hand that feeds you? The BCS had its flaws, but it was still better than the system that was in place before the BCS came about

I am allowed to talk about Fight Club
"Big East football will have the following members in 2013-14: Boise State, San Diego State, Temple, Memphis, Central Florida, Houston, SMU, Rutgers, Cincinnati, Connecticut, Louisville and South Florida with Navy joining in 2015." Someone explain to me why in heavens name does the Big Least deserve a BCS bid. I like Boise, but I hope that bid disappears when they do the plus-one.

Some of those Big East teams deserve to be in a BCS conference and I can think of some teams in the Big 10, ACC, Pac-12 and SEC who don't.

Heres BSU flying costs for 6 away games in 2012, not including Hawaii which will be about 130,000 to 140,000, Michigan State (Lansing): $128,171, New Mexico (Albuquerque): $82,328, Southern Miss (Hattiesburg): $130,851, Wyoming (Laramie): $72,963, Nevada (Reno): $79,749

This was a bad move. The reason to move was for an AQ. Well the AQ system is over. The only way Boise will ever have a chance to get into the new 4 team playoff is to have all of the planets line up at the right time. They could do that from the Mt West as easy as the BE. Good luck traveling 2,000 miles for road games with about 50 fans in tow.

hey herd.. You take any math in school? If I put a pile of 100 dollar bills in the back of a pickup truck, fill it to the brim, and also fill up a small lunchbox with 100 dollar bills ? Which one would YOU take?

I suppose that would depend on which one was flying 2500 miles across country...my guess is the pickup truck would be empty by the time it arrived

Actually, Boise St. knew that the AQ status may not be preserved when they committed to join the Big East. This move is all about the money and exposure. Yes, it will be lower than the others but it will be more than 2.5 M on cable channels that no one has. Teams and conferences are following the almighty dollar. Sad truth, but the truth no less.

Agreed. Even though the mtn was finally put out of it's misery, the fact remains that in the MWC they would essentially be right back where they started in the WAC (although Air Force was a plus) with a slightly higher paycheck and worse media exposure (with CBS Sports and NBC Sports picking up the best conference games). They are making this move for more money and media exposure (and a modest boost to their SOS).

A #8 ranked boise state goes 12-0 defeats an unranked houston in the first Big East conference championship game. After final rankings are computed, boise jumps to the #7 spot behind #6 12- 1 Texas, #5 11-2 Oregon, #4 Alabama 11-1, #3 12-1 USC, #2 12-1 Wisconsin, and #1 12-1 LSU. Since Alabama defeated florida who gave LSU its only loss, alabama rides into the number 4 spot in the playoff. Alabama's only loss is to #8 ranked Arkansas.

A BE reject to a team incapable of winning the MAC to restored BE champ??? Highly unlikely, I'll refer to the "planets aligning" metaphor mentioned on this message board.

We'll its sure going to better their academic credibility. The Big East looks worse than it did last year, and even with USF and Boise I can't see any pitch to make an argument for the Big East and a automatic qualifier. They also should change the conference name. Maybe to Wide Country Conference. or perhaps just rename themselves the Big Easy. Either way I look forward to great match-ups such as USF and Boise.

Boise and San Diego will be in the conference for two years, then come crawling back to the MWC....not a step up going from the MWC to the Big Least! Besides who in their right mind is going to spend $900 on a plane ticket, $500 on a hotel, $200+ at the stadium.... for 6 weeks out of the year? The 1%? How many does Boise and SDSU have? bSu deserves better, but needs major improvements in academics and their other sports programs!

I love it how you call it the Big Least and claim it is not a step up, when all the facts say otherwise. Consider the following: 1) When looking at overall win/loss records, the 2013 MWC will have 60% of it's teams with an overall win/loss record of less than .500. Conversely the Big East will only have 25% of it's teams below that mark (or less if you include Navy) and two of the teams that fall below that mark have shown significant improvement over the last couple of seasons. 2) For the last 2 bowl seasons the new line-up MWC has produced a whopping 2 bowl wins (Nevada and Air Force both won in 2010) and didn't produce a single bowl win for the 2011 season. 3) In the 2011 season, Wyoming pulled itself from being a dismal 3-9 football team up to an 8-5 team and finished 3rd in the MWC (behind TCU and BSU), this 3rd place MWC team went to the New Mexico and were promptly thumped by a Temple team that didn't even win the Mid-America conference. 4) In the last 6 years, 6 of the 12 teams projected for the 2013 Big East will have won at least a conference co-champ, conversely in the 2013 MWC only Hawaii and Nevada can claim that honor. Your precious lobos haven't won a conference title in football since 1964. So before you go spouting MWC rhetoric I suggest you start taking a look at some facts. Is the BE a conference on par with the big 4? NO. Is it a step above the MWC? YES.

Truthfully, they might as well go independent. That at least they could play ND every year and beat the living snot out of them. That might at least accomplish one positive thing. shutting up the ND homers forever.

That would be a death sentence until they can get their stadium into the 50-60K range at least.
