This all just seems so unorganized. It reminds me of the high school kid, who forgets to get all of his project done the day before a presentation and now he is rushing to get all of his work done before the deadline. 353 Days ago
4UNLV
my personal opinion, which doesn't mean anything, is that they really don't want to go, but feel that the big east (before all this reorganization by the bcs) may have given them the best shot at being able to play for a championship (which i think they desperately want), and of course, more money. now with everything up in the air, i could possibly see them staying put for maybe a few weeks to see what happens, then take the higher penalty if need be... 353 Days ago

So... I guess the way that this works. Is, that they have till 11:59pm to make a decision. Or is the deadline coming up anytime? 353 Days ago

Why would Boise State want to go to a 'cluster' of a conference called the Big Least? Makes ZERO sense in terms of rivalries, football or any other sport. Pac12 should have included Boise, San Diego State instead of Utah and Colorado. 353 Days ago

I think SDSU gets 10 million in the BE contract regardless if ESPN drops them or not, compared to about 1.5 million in MWC. BSU will go, and so will SDSU... BSU is just waiting it out. 354 Days ago

As a MWC fan I am hoping Boise St. will stay. The Big East is gonna have to cough up a lot of dough in order to support Boise St. in the move. With their AQ status on the line and a questionable TV market deal (can you say Big East Network?) on the line Boise must really be weighing the numbers right now. If Boise asks for help, whos to say SDSU won't either. Also Boise will have to join the Big West in other sports as the WAC is slowly deteriorating out of Div. 1-A status. The creation of the new playoff system in 2015 and the destruction of the horrible Mtn. channel will give Boise national exposure and still offer them a chance to play in a National Championship, which I think is their ultimate goal. They definitely got a lot to think about but they may be a lot better off if the wait it out in the MWC until a better option presents itself. 355 Days ago

For all those people who actually think the Big East is better then the Mountain West Conference, wake up and smell the coffee! There is no way the Big East is as good. The Big East is at best equal to the Sun Belt! I've heard of East Coast biases but man, wake up. The top conferences have always been in order (1) SEC, (2) Pac 10 or 12, (3) Big 12, (4) Big Ten, (5) Mountain West Conference, (6) ACC, (7) WAC, (8) Big East. In that order based on performance and strength of schedule. Now, the MWC will be stronger with Boise but if they want to go to a Conference that is held together by chewing gum let them go! Boise is the San Jose State of the 1980's this run there on will be over sooner then later. It's to bad the old WAC broke up and split into two conferences because those schools may have been strong enough to be part of this new dynamic! Big East, please get real. 356 Days ago

Mouse's comment has to be one of the most moronic things that I have ever read on an ESPN thread. Mouse, we all have opinions, but opinions are not FACT. Anyway, I will provide the Sagarin conference ratings for the last five years below. Not only has the Big East beaten the MWC in every one of those years. but the Big East has in fact placed in the middle of the BCS conferences on multiple occasions.

good luck to boise state in whatever decision they make, it can't be an easy one...i have read many comments about money being the main reason they would go to the big east...but there is one thing that has not been mentioned...with the demise of theMtn, espn is picking up several more games, they are even broadcasting 4 or 5 of unlv's football games this next year. contracts are being renegotiated, and since the big east does not appear to be one of espn's favorites right now, it is very possible that if bsu, and therefore sdsu stay in the mwc, that the tv money for the mwc would end up being comparable to what it would be for the big east. Also, i gotta say, for those of you trashing boise's basketball team, you all may be a bit surprised over the next couple of years, they are putting together what is going to be a very good team. anyway, of course, personally i would like them to stay in the mwc, because i don't think the realignments are done, i think bsu will get a better offer that makes more sense in the next couple of years with all the changes that are going to take place...just sayin...and my personal opinion is that bsu isn't as concerned with the money as they are a shot at a national title...and they don't get it any more now with the big east than they have over the last several years. (and btw, they have only been in the mwc one year...) 356 Days ago
4UNLV
oh, and since theMtn and it's crappy contract are history, bring back byu, and let them broadcast mwc games on their network...and espn. that gives some strength back to the mwc, and would probably elevate it above the big east. 356 Days ago

my first thot with those you mentioned was utep, but then i thot about tulsa's new bball coach, and that could be a lot of fun, they are going to be a very different team in a short period of time! (and yes, i realize it would be for football considerations, but still...) or, wth, we could just be rebels (haha) and go with the lucky number 13... 354 Days ago

I just do not see how Boise State will be able to travel all the way across country so often and it not effect the bottom line. The Big East is a dumb move. They should just go independent like BYU did. 356 Days ago
wlpoulson
We already travel by chartered flights to all but a couple games. Costs won't change that much for us. Most schools in the east don't fly as much because they are so close to each other. Out west hardly anyone is that close. They bus to Nevada and Utah, that's about it. 356 Days ago
AUtigerKev
Yes it is. It should also be about geography, but nowadays that is out the window. 356 Days ago
BostonHusky92
While the travel isn't ideal, it could work for a school like Boise. Being slightly different is what Boise does. They already have the blue turf schtick. Now they can have a traveling road show of sorts and be known as the blue team with the blue turf that travels the country and just kicks * ss and take names. It adds one more layer of publicity. 356 Days ago

I can see that from a school size standpoint, but certainly not from the football standpoint. 356 Days ago

Good point. But the Big East won't work either money wise. Maybe they should lobby again for the Big 12 who has an opening seeing they are not at 12 teams right now. 356 Days ago

How long is that Big East Money going to be that high? The BCS money is only going to last another 2 years, after that the playoff money will only make big pay-offs to the top 5 conf. and the Big East is not one of them. With the upcoming TV contract negotiations the BE wont get the money they think they are should get. They think they are equal to the ACC and will get a contract that is on par to the new ACC TV contract, I guess no one told them they are about to lose the schools with big TV markets. 356 Days ago
BostonHusky92
Also, the Big 12 or Pac 12 are not options for Boise at the moment. The Pac 12 won't take them due to academics (they still need to improve more). The Big 12 won't take them at the moment as the Big 12 doesn't take football only members and Boise would embarrass them in basketball and other sports (plus, Boise does not bring a large TV market to either league). Louisville is a MUCH better choice for the Big 12 as their football is solid and hoop is great. Louisville vs Kansas in hoop would be stellar. Boise State vs Kansas? Not so much. 356 Days ago
AUtigerKev
That number surprises me a bit. I didn't think the Big East could pony up that kind of dough. Well then, I guess they will do alright then. 356 Days ago
BostonHusky92
I disagree on the money. They get like 1.5 million in the MWC. The Big East will net them at least 6 million (if not slightly over 10 million). That easily covers their travel, allows them to improve their stadium, and gives them extra money for marketing and branding. 356 Days ago
BostonHusky92
Boise State does not have the luxury of going independent as they do not have a national fanbase, robust history, deep pockets, and even a remote chance of cable operators picking up their channel if they created one. BYU has a whole country full of Mormons who cable operators know will pony up to see BYU play. It is just not feasible for a school like Boise State to pull off independence. 356 Days ago

I think if BSU would stay in the MWC the MWC would continue to be that thorn of a conference on the "Big Boys" @$$..... BSU would still be BSU... SDSU in past 2 years seems to finally be pointed in the right direction and climbing back to some respectability.... Hawaii has had a few good season (one BCS birth), Air Force always solid, Fresno St with new coaching may be that giant killer again as it was once known to be.... Nevada has shined at times....., WYO looks better.... and with no AQ in 2 seasons maybe the MWC will still mean something.... in BBALL the MWC already very solid with SDSU, UNLV, New Mexico... now Nevada, Fresno St looking good.... Colorado St looks good.... if the MWC will still be considered a mid-major at least it has been and looks to continue to be the BEST of the mid majors.... including when the BE joins the "mid major" ranks (football).... 356 Days ago
wbrose81408
Of course Wyoming looks better, it's hard not to after going from a 3-9 season to an 8 win season. The problem? Loss by 40+ to Utah State and a 22 point loss to Temple. The fact remains man, you are looking at this through your bball goggles and trying to make arguments for why BSU needs to throw their football program under the bus by remaining in one of the two worst conferences in the FBS, so that your Aztecs can play BBall in the MWC. 356 Days ago
1trueAZTECfaninLA
problem also is... no one other than the MWC, BE and WAC is offering anything to BSU..... 356 Days ago

You know it just dawned on me.... with all the attention going to Boise St about haven't formerly announced its departure to the BE.... I haven't heard or read anything from SDSU stating if we're a go or no go.... last report was roughly a month ago where SDSU said they are 100% committed.... now I wonder if SDSU would still take off to the BE if Boise St doesn't......??? If BSU doesn't leave and for SDSU basketball sakes.... I'd hope SDSU would stay as well...... 356 Days ago
