NEW YORK -- If you're tired of the Subway Series, you're tired of baseball.Period.I've heard all the arguments against the expansion, and, in some cases, even the continuation, of interleague play. I... Read full story

When the Nats and Phillies get to play the Blue Jays and the Orioles 6 games and the Mets have to play the Yankees 6 games....its pretty unfair. Didn't we go through the whole: 'Let's have unbalanced schedules' thing a long time ago?' 329 Days ago

6 games was way too many Wally, trust me. If Frank Frank didn't open his yap, this series would've been a lot more dull.
They need to cut it to just a 3-game series and alternate parks year-to-year. This dumb-$@% series means way more to Mets fans than it does to Yankees fans. 329 Days ago

Like I said Kings of NY! Tired of hearing ESPN or FOX trying to hype this non-series. Yanks took 5 out of six. The season series was already decided on Saturday and the Yanks have won 10 out of 13. Somebody explain to me how thats a rivalry? 331 Days ago

Disagree! Huge Yankees fan here and could care less if we ever play the Mets. Inter league play has certainly "jumped the shark" and I wish they would abolish this gimmick as it taints the value of the regualr season! 331 Days ago

What a great series. Mets suck 331 Days ago

I don't understand what's so bad about Yankees-Reds for example. Not every interleague series is a rivalry series. It's just a chance to mix it up a little instead of the same old matchups. If it wasn't Yankees-Reds, it would have been another Yankees-Twins series or something. Is that really any better? 331 Days ago

You know, one of these days one of you clowns will write an article worth reading. Until then I'll just swear at myself and shake my head every time I visit the biggest sports website in New York.
Seriously. You guys are the laziest, least interesting collection of sports writers since O'Connor left the Record. Just report on what's happening, please. Your half baked opinions are embarrassing to anyone who made it past the fourth grade. 331 Days ago

Crowed! Ha! I'm still not sold on Matthews as a baseball analyst, but I have to give credit where credit is due. 331 Days ago

so a reporter from espn quotes 'someone in the showers' trash talking the mets closer and then 'you could hear laughter' but no names given. now i remember why i don't read espn's articles much anymore. trying to stir up something that isn't there. 331 Days ago

I would love to see more interleague games. It would be great to see the Yanks play in Miami, Wrigley, Millwakee, etc. More games throughout. Play the Mets 15 times a year.
Managers dont like it because it disrupts the same daily routine. Baseball plays way too many games in a year so this is one of the few things that makes it still exciting. MLB needs to keep finding ways to shae the league up.....either that, or cut the season to 100 games 331 Days ago

Even as a Yankee hater, I readily admit that the Yankees are the greatest sports franchise in the world. Also, New York is one of the greatest, most iconic cities in the world. That said, the extensive front-page coverage of the Subway Series has been laughable. Any obnoxious rants about ESPN's over-love for the Yankees and NY in general have been validated by this. You'd think this was the World Series for all the headlines it's been getting here. 331 Days ago

So...you have one series that is a grudge match between teams from the nation's largest market, and a bunch of others between teams that for the most part don't have a historical rivalry. Which one do you think gets the most press? 331 Days ago

They should have focused their coverage on Texas playing the Rockies, Padres and Astros... 331 Days ago

Yeah I can't imagine why a Yankees/Mets subway series is getting a lot of headlines on the ESPN NY website.
And it's one article of many on the ESPN front page. With the great pitching matchup and the fact that it was the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game, I don't think that's outrageous.

The only beef I have against the inter-league play is the unbalanced schedule. 331 Days ago

Yankee fan here, but I think the Mets do get screwed every year for playing the Yankees 6 times. The Yanks should play 3 games against every team in the NL east.
Next year with 5 teams in every division you can have East v. East, Central v. Central and West v. West. There should be some good rivalries there.

you can't guarantee the Yankees will be tough? making the playoffs something like 17 of the last 18 years 331 Days ago
bsmithUNC
But you can't predict that really. Sure, having to play a team like the Yankees almost guarantees that you will be playing a good team. So perhaps the Mets get an unfair shake by having to play 6 against the Yanks every single year. But it's still not a guarantee that the Yanks will be tough. Teams rise and fall every year, and so what could look like a tough interleague schedule could actually turn out to be easier if teams don't perform up to expectations. 331 Days ago

I'm pretty sure it was predictable that all three teams Texas faced over the last 3 series were going to be awful this season... 331 Days ago

i like interleague play because it brings in teams that you normally wouldn't see except on sportscenter...i enjoyed the reds yankees series because the reds are an up and coming team and it's cool to see players like votto and phillips and bruce who the yankees never play...i'd much rather have that than 20 more games against the orioles and the blue jays 331 Days ago
ammizny
I agree. There's 162 games and you don't even play half the teams? I don't want to see them play a division rival 18 times and then not even play a lot of teams in the opposite league. I like interleague play for that reason. 331 Days ago
