What does Bama, Auburn and Tenn., 3 notoriously cheating schools, do with all of that money? It would be interesting if some entity went in and audited the books, to see where the money goes! Could it be that is how Richardson's family was moved to BAMER and set up in housing? Could that be how his vehicle was purchased, as well? Is that how the girls are paid for, as entertainment for recruits? Something smells and it sure isn't a Rose! No one recruits any harder than UF and their budget is much lower and our coaches have farther to travel to see many of the recruits! Time for the cheating to stop!

LOL...isn't that entity suppose to be the NCAA???

It might be that the academies are combining recruiting for the service as well as the football. They may also be ignoring the likely hood of actually targeting specific recruits, as most universities do, and just flat out targeting everyone that play ball. That may explain the huge budget at least for the army which is hard to recruit for in general let alone for a specific sport.

I'm guessing its probably because the Academies recruit nationwide...each state gets slots for cadets. Besides, haven't you seen the cost of operating a C-140 and clearly USAF is up charging Army for rides! LOL Go Army, Beat Navy (and the Zoomies)

Wow....South Carolina spends nearly 1/4 of what everyone else spends in the SEC and still stays relevant with recruiting...

OU class of 2012 by state- Texas: 7, OK:3, Ohio:2, FL:4, Cali:3, PA, NV, KS, MO, IL, and MD: 1 each. Not sure what everyone else is talking about when it comes to "National Recruiting", but I'm pretty sure OU has most teams beat in that category. Interesting to see what the budget was for this year. OU dropped $100K between 2010 and 2011.

in 2012 notre dame had 17 players from 13 different states. so far this year they have 14 players form 13 different states

Are you referring to OK? They've had plenty of great players, considering the population of the state.

OSU has to recruit elsewhere - they don't produce many good football players!

I'm surprised that Ohio State doesn't spend more than it does. I wonder how Urban Meyer likes the smaller pool of money to pay off, hmmm, I mean recruit at his new school. I also wonder how a team like Wisconsin would do if they actually spent some cash to compete with the big boys if they would get over the hump from being really good to a real contender.

If the badgers had real boosters and actually cared about winning multiple national championships (instead of just settling for conference champs) than they should be ashamed and embarrassed by this number. Just like i was taught as a kid "you get what you pay for".

The Tennessee number is probably the only honest number of the bunch. Everyone else is under reporting. Either that or unlimited calling and texting plans have not come to Tennessee yet.

Tennessee has always recruited hard in California, that might have something to do with it, or maybe like you said, the Metro PCS unlimited caliing plans have not materialized as of yet

I bet Notre Dame is the highest simply because they recruit nationally more than any other school. I am kind of interested in seeing how much they spend on recruiting.

I'd guess SoCal is pretty high also just based on their nationwide appeal; many top recruits list them on wish list along with regional schools. (As someone pointed out that local schools have inside track on recruiting.)

highandhall- a lot of kids like ND because, gasp!- its a really great campus. Many ppl come for the religious affiliation. And as for your knock on our academic prestige not leading to monetary success, recent ND grads rank right behind Yale and Stanford in earnings, due to our #1 ranked business school. And yes, the football tradition helps as well. top notch facilities and the draw of being on tv every week are pretty alluring to recruits

It also does not help that Rudy has not held a real job for decades

ND needs to be thanking "Rudy" and television, otherwise I can't imagine the draw to the school for football being too great. And don't start explaining the prestige of a Notre Dame degree. Some of the book-smartest people in the world obtain degrees from "prestigious" schools, yet can't figure out how to earn their employers (or themselves) a nickel. Those that stand behind the degree of a school only don't have the sense to realize where a person's TRUE success lies.

There is something going on at Tennessee if they are spending $1.5 million in a single year of recruiting, I can see Alabama and Auburns figures being so high but Tennessee hasn't achieved anything at all in the dooley days

Tennessee fans have always loved football. But in terms of producing players, the state has more of a basketball talent pool than a football one. UT always has to look outward more than other SEC schools for football talent (except for Kentucky). That costs a lot more in travel dollars. But it is still hilarious seeing them spend so much to get so little ROI.

Surprising that Texas Tech outspends Oklahoma and Texas. A little frustrating as a fan of the Red Raiders seeing that they spend that much yet the results are still not there

Well, to be fair, that was the past 2 years. Those "results" should start coming into play this year now that Tubs has all of his recruits in there. Also, while Lubbock does have an airport, still can't really drive down to Houston for the weekend and things like that. Its more expensive to travel long distances from Lubbock airport being its a hub airport

At the other end, look at how little Boise State spent. Seriously, which program gets the most bang for the buck?

Eric, you are a tool. Nobody in college football even comes close to Boise in the wins/dollar category, and it just kills you to admit it. Give them a little respect, because they have certainly earned it the hard way.

Don't really know... Seeing as Boise St. wins lots of games in crappy conferences, it is not really a valid assertion to think they do.
