LOS ANGELES -- The foundation for the Los Angeles Kings' historical, magical and altogether unexplainable playoff run was built on the road, but it was apparently always destined to end at home.As mu... Read full story
A well written article that helped me relive those early days with Butch Goring, Rogie Vachon, the Triple Crown Line and the gaudy purple and gold uniforms. I'm not going to get too confident going into next year. It's so tough to win the Cup, much less twice in two years. I think, just like the Angels in 2002, I'll enjoy this Championship for a while. When does the commemorative DVD come out? 342 Days ago

Being inside Staples Center on Monday was probably the greatest moment of my short life (25). Great article Arash, it had me fighting back the tears thinking back to that night. This is going to be a great team for many years to come. 342 Days ago

Great article! I'm only 30, but I vividly remember my first Kings game around '89 when Luc scored a hat trick at the Forum. My favorite team might have been the Lappy, Smolz, Ziggy, Blake, ect team, but they didn't do much in the playoffs :(. But yeah, we should have quite a few years of great hockey in LA! Plus, we gotta win at least one more to surpass Anaheim so we can forget that they won one first. 343 Days ago

that was a special team in the early part of last decade. Glenn Murray, Stumpel, Mattias Norstrom, Modry, Potvin, Storr, Buchberger, Emerson, Belanger, etc. etc. 342 Days ago

awesome run and well deserved first title... too bad it's been overshadowed with the possibility some 29 year old whiner MIGHT win his first ring. 343 Days ago

Congrats to LA! First time cups are always something special. Glad to see Quick get the Conn Smythe--well deserved.
The Kings had a fantastic run. Not too shabby for a hockey team from a place where ice is something that goes in your gin-n-tonic. ;) 343 Days ago

"unexplainable"
Easy explination, they were the best team in hockey. Look at their record after they set their roster with Richards, Sutter, King, Nolan, and Carter. They had the best record in hockey! The reason they won the cup is they were the best team. 343 Days ago

This is a classic example of what happens when a team peaks that the right time (playoffs) You don't see it very often, but the Kings Dominated every series. What a great accomplishment for an 8th seeded team and for what many considered the 12 or 13th best team in the whole playoffs. College football should learn this lesson. Great sport moments like this will last lifetime. 343 Days ago

I'm a Blues fan but the Kings definitely deserved the cup this year 343 Days ago

Great article, Arash. This is a phenomenal achievement for both the organization and its fans and the Kings' highly unpredictable monster run through the playoffs as an 8 seed is a reason, among many others, why hockey is the best sport. 343 Days ago

NBA Fever... Catch it!
Yes, like a bad cold, the obnoxious and whiny players and uneventful and tedious sport just won't go away!

This is one of those moments when I wish the USA was just a bit more like Canada. 343 Days ago

agreed
I don't think it's totally an East coast bias as much as simply hockey doesn't rate as high as baseball or basketball. SADLY enough :( 343 Days ago

The 1996-97 Detroit Red Wings went 16-4 in the playoffs as well, beating St. Louis 4-2, Anaheim 4-0, Colorado 4-2 and then sweeping Philiadelphia in the Stanley Cup Finals. That would make the Kings the third team, not the second, to achieve such a feat. 343 Days ago

Read more carefully. The article doesn't say they are the second team to go 1604. It says their 16-4 record is second only to Edmonton's 18-2 record. 343 Days ago
