A well written article that helped me relive those early days with Butch Goring, Rogie Vachon, the Triple Crown Line and the gaudy purple and gold uniforms. I'm not going to get too confident going into next year. It's so tough to win the Cup, much less twice in two years. I think, just like the Angels in 2002, I'll enjoy this Championship for a while. When does the commemorative DVD come out?

Great article! I'm only 30, but I vividly remember my first Kings game around '89 when Luc scored a hat trick at the Forum. My favorite team might have been the Lappy, Smolz, Ziggy, Blake, ect team, but they didn't do much in the playoffs :(. But yeah, we should have quite a few years of great hockey in LA! Plus, we gotta win at least one more to surpass Anaheim so we can forget that they won one first.

"unexplainable" Easy explination, they were the best team in hockey. Look at their record after they set their roster with Richards, Sutter, King, Nolan, and Carter. They had the best record in hockey! The reason they won the cup is they were the best team.

This is a classic example of what happens when a team peaks that the right time (playoffs) You don't see it very often, but the Kings Dominated every series. What a great accomplishment for an 8th seeded team and for what many considered the 12 or 13th best team in the whole playoffs. College football should learn this lesson. Great sport moments like this will last lifetime.

Great article, Arash. This is a phenomenal achievement for both the organization and its fans and the Kings' highly unpredictable monster run through the playoffs as an 8 seed is a reason, among many others, why hockey is the best sport.

The 1996-97 Detroit Red Wings went 16-4 in the playoffs as well, beating St. Louis 4-2, Anaheim 4-0, Colorado 4-2 and then sweeping Philiadelphia in the Stanley Cup Finals. That would make the Kings the third team, not the second, to achieve such a feat.

Read more carefully. The article doesn't say they are the second team to go 1604. It says their 16-4 record is second only to Edmonton's 18-2 record.
