Enough with Griner already. The US Olympic team should consist of players who have earned the privilege over the long haul. It should be a privilege ... not a "gift". If Griner proves herself at the next level, then she should be considered ... but not before. I think people are going to be surprised that she doesn't shine as brightly when she is pitted against the best players in the women's game.

Griner got her honor. Now give Della Donne HER honor by making her the 12th pick for the Olympic team. She absolutely has earned the right .... and it would show "no hard feelings" by Geno. EDD would add an exciting collegiate touch to an already amazing lineup.

She wasn't invited to the NT camp last year. Griner and Vandersloot were the only two college players there. From that camp, they picked the final pool of 21 players, and the final 11 from that are on the NT now. So EDD can't be chosen as the 12th.

Don't assume Griner will be the 12th player. The US is thin at the post, both in size and experience. I think that's one reason why Parker was named despite her injury history-her experience. If she goes down, then they only have Fowles and Charles, both with limited Sr. NT experience. I also think that's why Griner was the only collegiate player named to the final 21 players. Nneka Ogwumike is a better all-around player (which is valuable on the NT), but they're already deep at her position(s). Griner has virtually no USAB/international experience, except for the mini-camp last spring and short tour last fall with part of the NT. USAB traditionally doesn't name an inexperienced collegiate player for the first time to the NT for a major competition. Charles was also the only collegiate player on the NT in '09, but she wasn't picked for the World team in '10. It's in USAB's best interest to see how healthy the NT players are returning from overseas before picking the 12th player. If Parker is good to go, then the last player could be another wing/guard, like Dupree. Or it could be another post, like Brunson. Even though she also has limited NT experience, she does have plenty of overseas experience.

Obviously someone whose team hasn't had great success against UConn over the years. Auriemma is an amazing coach with a record that needs no discussion. Regardless of the Olympic Creed, the Games ARE about winning. So you go with a proven winner at the helm.

All for women's sports but the comment about them playing in the NBA is crazy. A 7 year go kart driver would have more success competing in NASCAR than female post players in the NBA. The size / weight / speed difference would make it impossible for them to perform at that level.
