Celtics' Big Three in jeopardy?

January 20, 2012

Danny Ainge does not want to see another decline in the franchise like the one that happened after the Boston Celtics' original Big Three dried up, and he's willing to break up his current star trio ...

Let's see, who'd want one of the big three? A contender of course. That limit the options down to about 8 teams. Who still have cap space? We're down to one: Clippers. Will C's take Mo Williams + picks for Allen, or send Pierce to his home town for Randy Foye + picks? I don't think so. Ainge can stop dreaming.

The Celtics were outrebounded by the Suns 44-32. Kevin Garnett had 5 rebounds. It's not like Phoenix is some rebounding juggernaut. But truthfully, it's better for the Celtics if they lose this year. This is likely a good draft class.

I believe the window on this Celtics team is closed. I bet the pride of the big 3 will nobly make a push for the Celtics to make a run for the post, and heck might suprise one of the top 2(doubt it) and make a 7th game out of the series, but that is it. The Celtics are going nowhere. It is time to start listening in on trade possiblilties. KG and Ray will make good veteran presents on young good teams. I think Piece is in trouble and might be more hurt than anybody knows. In any event time to make trades and perhaps build a young team around Rondo. It was mentioned in the article that they are only 13 games into the season, so it is too early to evaluate this against the rest of the season. I disagree in this case. I think 13 games with this kind of production is a wake up call to the H*** this particular trio is facing for the rest of this grind of 66 game season!

KG makes 21 million. No team that is contending will uproot their roster for KG (because they'd have to match salary),...they certainly won't be including promising young players. So, basically, what Boston is left with is taking a bad contract like Hedo Turkoglu's. The one good thing about KG's salary is that it comes off the books after this year. But if they take on some of these bad contracts to get rid of him, there's a good chance that Boston would hurt their cap space after this year.

Many people forget that by trading Perkins last year,Ainge brought 4 NEW players to Boston.THAT is the reason why they did not win a title last year. Not only because Perkins was not there, but also because the TEAM was CHANGED.I think that is better to give it a last shot to win a title with full team, and risk to lose ONE player(good, but the least important in the starting lineup) than trade him, change the team, and expect to do something in the playoffs. Perkins is a little bit overrated, because he fits in perfectly in a TEAM like Celtics are,in Doc's way of running the team...In other teams he might get even better numbers, but not the same impact...Send Steve Nash to a team that does not play fast, and has no shooters... It is a sad thing to send three veterans somewhere else to ''make some future for the Celtics'',just two seasons after they played in the Finals.A Championship Three, and two of those players came to Boston at once...What an irony...There is something called ''DIGNITY''...Mister Ainge!Just a mention of this trade combination makes me sick.Joe Dumars did the same mistake by trading Bilups for Iverson.Even worse! He traded a Leader of the team.If he did not, that team would be a contender at least for the ECF that year, and next.I think Sheed wouldn't leave them if Bilups was still there. And look at them now...Contenders for 7-8 playoff spot two seasons after that trade. That was a really good TEAM,probably the best TEAM in the past decade. The fact that Ainge traded Perkins last year, shows that he has lost his belief in his team after the 2010 Finals. This Celtics team is really good, they have good bench, but some players are a little bit out of shape(KG,Pierce),and it's a little changed team.Think about it:The best teams in the NBA right now are the ones who kept the nucleus of the team(Lakers,Spurs), or stayed the same but more experienced for one playoff run last year(Miami,OKC).No wonder, especially with these short training camps.

No one is going to trade any young talent or draft picks for 3 old guys. Boston needed to make a move probably after last year. Piece is an old perimeter who probably could help a Dallas Mavericks team coming off the bench. Garnett is DONE. Ray Allan maybe to the Lakers or Thunder coming off the bench.. RONDO is overrated (cannot shoot beyond 6 feet, and his body needs to be stronger). All n All, BOSTON is DONE>

Ray Allen is still in shape and is the best shooter in the league. If he was a focal point he could still ave. 25 pts./game. Pierce and Rondo suck.

Garnett is done? Probably, but he is not that much worse that superstars like Amare. It just shows how great he used to be. Ray Allen off the bench? Yes, Pierce and Garnett have slowed down but Ray Allen would definitely start for the lakers.

I'm surprised Danny said no trade offers have been made yet, but hopefully after going public about this they start coming in. I hope the Celts can better the team for years in return for an aged vet or two because this team is headed nowhere.

The Celtics really need to start limiting the big 3s minutes. They need to save wear and tear but they also need to see what they have with the other guys on the roster. It also wouldn't hurt if they didn't do so well this year since it's a good draft.

trade all 3 for Howard, then use the draft for other pieces. Rondo and Howard will all ready be there and looking at the bench it wont be too bad for the C's.

I'll take Howard, as a dominant center is exactly what this team needs. However, I'd prefer keeping Allen if possible, and NO WAY am I giving up Pierce. Rondo, Pierce and Howard are a stellar foundation for the future. Allen just makes it better.

not saying they would , just think it would be a nice look for Rondo and Howard

It's a waste of time to even think about that. There's no way the Magic would take on the Celtics problem for the privilege of surrendering their biggest asset. It's totally delusional.

Bulls: Ray Allen Celtics: Rip Hamilton, Kyle Korver, Chicago's low 1st round pick

The Celtics aren't going to get awesome young prospects for any of the big 3. People need to accept that. Korver and Hamilton each make 5 million and they're younger, so they're more tradeable. Plus Boston would be getting a draft pick out of it.

No it's not...not for the Charlotte pick. The Celtics would get nothing like that from anyone else. Also, there's a distinct possibility that Ray is going to fade as the season moves forward. Nothing about Ray Allen justifies trading that pick. Get real.

rondo for devon harris, cj miles, and our two first round picks (at least one would be a lottery since it's coming from golden state). that would be good for you guys since it's a really deep draft this year

Rondo is precisely the reason top-tier players should *want* to come to Boston -- the man is the first true, pass-first PG since Nash. He might have a few attitude issues, but he'll get the ball to the right person at the right time like no one else currently playing. Frankly, if Durant wants to play for a young, insanely talented PG who *isn't* a ballhog, he should be in Boston.

The man's a gamer. He does whatever it takes to win. Granted, it makes me a bit mad when I see other team's players doing the same thing, so take from that what you want. Hypocrite? Very possibly.
