Kashechkin leads Dauphine as final stage nears

DIGNE-LES-BAINS, France -- Antonio Colom Mas of Spain won
the fifth stage of the Dauphine Libere Friday and Astana teammate
Andrey Kashechkin kept the overall lead.

Colom pulled away from a 22-rider breakaway at the start of the
climb up the Col du Corobin an hour before the finish of the
121-mile stage and held on to win. Teammate Alexandre Vinokourov
who finished second.

Colombia's Leonardo Duque of Cofidis was third, 15 seconds
behind.

Rain pelted riders in the early part of the stage from Nyon to
Digne-Les-Bains, in the southern Alps.

The 123-mile sixth stage Saturday goes from Gap to Valloire. The
race ends Sunday in Annecy.
